Small screen to showcase upanishads

With a view to create awareness among people about the scriptures and spread knowledge of Upanishad concepts, the serial Upanishad Ganga is all set to hit the screens on February 5 on Doordarshan. It will be aired on DD1 on every Sunday at 10 am.

The serial in Hindi of 52 episodes will depict in an audio-visual format the essence of the Upanishadic teachings as well as the hoary cultural, intellectual and knowledge traditions of India.

The Chinmay Mission is producing the serial while the director is Dr Chandraprakash Dwivedi. Brahmacharini Shruti Chaitanyaji of Chinmaya Mission, Puducherry said, "We basically wanted to promote the concepts of the Upanishads. The head of Chinmay Mission, Swami Tejomayananda thought that this knowledge can be spread through electronic media as well."

The Chinmay Mission is constantly promoting and popularising the Upanishads through popular discourses called 'jnana yagnas' and well researched literature.
So then, how will the concepts of Upanishads be presented and picturised for the people? Shanti Chaitanyaji of Puducherry Chinmaya Mission said, "While Ramayana and Mahabharata serials dealt with strong characters and a flow of stories, Upanishad Ganga will deal with concepts and stories will be woven together to bring out the concepts. The Upanishads contain lots of stories and different concepts like qualities of an ideal student, identifying self, and oneness.
